Code of Ethics
Campus Religious Leaders Association At Indiana University – Bloomington
1. We are dedicated to the students of Indiana University and it is our goal to respect the dignity and integrity of students on the campus.
a. We respect the Indiana University Code of Student Ethics as the appropriate instruments for defining the rights and responsibilities of Indiana University students.
b. We will be sensitive to and have respect for the religious history of students. We affirm that any persuasive effort that restricts a student’s freedom to choose is unethical.
c. We will be sensitive to the academic responsibilities of student in planning and promoting our student activities.
d. Our primary field of prospective members will not be among students affiliated with other campus ministries.
e. When promoting our ministry we will clearly identify ourselves and our affiliation as we are registered with the Campus Religious Leaders Association at Indiana University – Bloomington.
2. We are dedicated to upholding Indiana University programs and policies.
a. We view ourselves as cooperative members of the university community and will act as a part of it.
b. When exercising our freedom to question or dispute Indiana University programs or policies we will do so in a peaceful and professional manner.
c. We will respect the program and policies of Indiana University on all levels concerning proper conduct toward students and proper behavior on campus.
d. All advertising will clearly identify our sponsoring religious organization as we are registered with the Campus Religious Leaders Association at Indiana University – Bloomington by using a contact address and/or telephone number.
3. We are dedicated to respecting other campus ministers at Indiana University.
a. We affirm the value of a collegial relationship between Campus Religious Leaders Association at Indiana University – Bloomington members.
b. We will assume the sincerity and good will of CaRLA members. In case of reported misunderstandings, we will assume proper motives and investigate with such expectations. We will grant one another the benefit of the doubt.
c. We will seek to create dialogue with other CaRLA members in order to increase understanding and mutual support of our common mission to serve the Indiana University community.
d. We will seek not to misrepresent the beliefs of other faiths and ministries.
e. We will seek cooperation whenever possible. Understanding ours to be a professional rather then a theological commitment to one another, we will agree to disagree on matters of faith and practice.
This Code was adopted by the Campus Ministers Association (now Campus Religious Leaders Association at Indiana University – Bloomington) on April 18, 1991.

In an effort to make CaRLA a dynamic organization “affirming the value of a collegial relationship between campus religious leaders at Indiana University – Bloomington” (see Code of Ethics, Campus Religious Leaders Association at Indiana University – Bloomington, Number 3 a) I understand and agree that:
In order to maintain membership in CaRLA active participation should be seen as a value and an on-going practice. Thus, we encourage you to attend at least 2 of the 4 general meetings of CaRLA this year and consider active participation in at least one CaRLA standing committee.
